STING - message from Philipp to the team
Parents:
We had a great meet this past weekend. The swimmers are all looking better and better in the water and we are seeing a lot of improvement not just in times, but in the way our kids are swimming. I would like to share an experience with all of you from this meet. I have been a swim coach for nearly 2 decades now and have had the honor of coaching many incredible athletes. Some of the highest achievements I have been lucky to be part of include national champions, Olympic Trials and Olympic Games qualifiers, numerous State Champions and so on….each of those experiences came with their own sense of pride for being able to be a small part in that athletes journey and accomplishments. This past weekend, the entire coaching staff kept getting praises from the other teams parents and meet organizers about our athletes and families. The common thread was that our swimmers were all such a pleasure for them to host. From the way they talked to bullpen parents, behaved behind the blocks and represented the Alpharetta YMCA and themselves at all times was nothing short of commendable. I often say that I am way more concerned about developing a great human being through the sport of swimming than I am the next Olympic Champion. This past weekend, the Alpharetta Sting swim team showed that being great as a humans far surpasses how great we are in the pool, and for that we as parents and coaches should all be very proud. I put team achievements that might not be measured in times or medals, or even recognized and voiced such as these, at the top of my list of prideful moments.
