STING swim team update & info

Happy Thanksgiving STING families!

Just a reminder, there is no swim practice Thursday 11/23 or Friday 11/24. The regular practice schedule will resume the week of 11/27.

The next STING swim meet is Saturday, December 9, at 4pm. It is a home meet at the Alpharetta YMCA. We will be hosting swimmers and families from McCleskey-East Cobb YMCA (MCY).

Swimtopia is open for you to declare if your swimmer will/will not be attending the 12/9 meet. Please sign into the team Swimtopia page https://iaysting.swimtopia.com. On the top bar choose "Meets & Events" > "Signup Calendar". From there click on the green button for "Meet Entry" next to the 12/9 meet. This is where you will declare if your swimmer is attending/not attending. Your swimmer can choose 3 individual events. Coach Carlos will put together the relay teams based on how many swimmers are in the age group. The other option is if your swimmer does not want to participate in relays, he/she may choose 4 individual events. The deadline to declare is Monday, December 4. If you do not declare it will be assumed your swimmer is not attending. There will be no late entries. You can also declare your swimmer using the mobile app. If you are still not registered on Swimtopia or are having issues getting in, please contact Coach Carlos ([email protected]) ASAP.

As the host team we need LOTS of volunteers to make it happen! Each family is requested to volunteer for at least 2 meets throughout the swim season. The list of volunteer opportunities is also listed in Swimtopia. From the "Signup Calendar" press the green button for "Job Signup". This will list all the volunteer positions we need to fill for the 12/9 meet. Below is a summary of each job.

Volunteer job descriptions:

Announcer - This volunteer will announce each event and keep the event board updated as the meet progresses.

Athlete check in - This volunteer will work before the meet starts 2-4pm. The volunteer will check in all the swimmers and volunteers as they arrive for the meet.

Bullpen/Staging - These volunteers assist with lining the swimmers up for each event.

Computer Person - This volunteer takes the times written down by the timers and enters them in Swimtopia. This is done during the meet.

Concession stand - These volunteers need to arrive by 3:30pm and will man the table until the end of the meet. They will sell drinks, snacks, fruit, candy, etc. to spectators and swimmers. This will involve handling money and making change.

Break down - These volunteers will stay after the meet to clean up and put away the supplies used.

Set up - These volunteers will arrive at 2:00pm and set up for the meet.

Starter - This volunteer will start each race.

Stroke and Turn – Are any swim parents a certified Stroke and Turn judge? If so, please let Carlos know.

Timer - There is a timer from IAY and a timer from the guest team in each lane who will record the swimmer's times for each race.

If you have not picked up your swimmer's team t-shirt, swim cap, or bathing suit, please contact Emily Crenshaw ([email protected]) as she has these items for your swimmer. PLEASE put your swimmer's name or initials in his/her bathing suit, swim cap, and t-shirt. This will help with items not getting lost.

Save the date! Instead of regular practice on Friday, December 15, the swimmers will have holiday pool fun from 5:00-7:00pm. There will be food, games, music, etc. A SignUp Genius will be sent closer to the date to sign up to bring food to share.

Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions. More details regarding the meet will be communicated closer to 12/9. GO STING!
